PS3
The next major player in the game console world is the Sony's Playstation 3 (PS3). Launched in 2006, it replaced the PlayStation 2, which once became the UK's bestselling game console after pushing Nintendo off that throne.

PS3 plays CDs, DVDs (including Blue-ray), PS2 video games, and PlayStation One video games which is a formidable list. PS2 games include such perennial favourites as Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, and Final Fantasy along with around 1600 others.

The PS3 supports two controllers though multi-tap connectivity allows up to eight players at one time. It has an adaptor to connect to the internet and a separate 20 GB hard drive.

A major plus for the PS3 is its graphics capability. The high processing speeds and generous memory result in cinematic-quality graphics with a maximum resolution of 1,080 progressively scanned lines, the highest HD resolution currently available.

On the control front, the PS3 offers a six-way motion-sensitive wireless controller. This allows gamers to turn and tilt when driving or flying.

As for games, numerous titles are being developed and old favourites like Gran Turismo, Kill Zone, and Sly Cooper are available.
